The 99th anniversary of Armenian Genocide was honored in Tsoghamarg community. The memory event was organized on the initiative of the Community Center officer, school director and volunteers. A big number of schoolchildren and youth participated in the event. They brought posters with calls to recognize the Genocide and put flowers to the tomb of the villagers-victims of Armenian Genocide.
In 1920 more than 400 people were cruelly murdered by the Turks in Tsoghamarg. This was about 60% of the village population. The villagers call the south-eastern hill of the village “Mereli arter”, where in 1920 several hundreds of Armenians from neighboring villages were killed. “This event is the duty of each of us, and in this way we have to pass our history and culture to the coming generations. It will remain in our consciousness, and we will have to remember and undertake corresponding steps to achieve our goal until the Genocide is recognized by the world,”-said the organizers.
Then the participants of the event lit candles and fumigated in the village chapel in memory of one and a half million innocent victims.
