“Sarapat” Local Action Group community-based NGO (“Sarapat” LAG) is a multidisciplinary partnership platform, which unites public and private sector and civil society representatives for fostering local development.
“Sarapat” LAG was established by “Women for Development” NGO in December 2020, and was officially registered as a non-profit organization on July 24, 2021. At the time of registration, the number of “Sarapat” LAG members was 34, representing 8 settlements of Sarapat consolidated community, namely – Sarapat, Salut, Pokr Sariar, Goghovit, Hoghmik, Tsoghamarg, Torosgyugh and Arpeni.

“Sarapat” LAG NGO is based on seven main principles of the LEADER approach to community development, namely:
– Bottom-up approach,
– Area-based approach,
– The local partnership,
– An integrated and multi-sectoral strategy,
– Networking,
– Innovation,
– Cooperation.
“Sarapat” LAG is a membership-based NGO, the management bodies of the organization are the General Assembly and the General Council, which is elected by the General Assembly for the tenure of two years. The Council is represented by the President and Vice-President. The organization has its own policies.

The main development goal of the organization is to improve the quality of life in Sarapat unified community by ensuring active participation of the local population in the processes of raising community issues and decision-making.
To reach its main development goal, the organization has identified the following 5 strategic directions:
- Support the development and renovation of rural infrastructures;
- Promote environmental protection and natural resource management processes;
- Developm agricultural and non-agricultural small businesses;
- Boost cultural life and sports;
- Contribute to the development of rural tourism.
“Sarapat” LAG members and “Women for Development” NGO jointly developed Sarapat consolidated community’s strategic development plan for 2021-2025. It is a detailed analysis of the current state of Sarapat consolidated community, which served as a baseline for outlining main development priorities, conducting SWOT analysis, and creating an action plan for carrying out improvements in 8 settlements of the consolidated community.
Despite the strategic development plan concerns only 8 settlements of Sarapat consolidated community, namely Torosgyugh, Tsoghamarg, Goghovit, Hoghmik, Arpeni, Salut, Pokr Sariar and Sarapat, it is a comprehensive analysis of the community issues and presents specific recommendations which apply to development of all 15 settlements of the community.
