Victory Day was celebrated in Tsoghamarg Village

Victory Day was celebrated yesterday in Tsoghamarg Village in commemoration of two important historical events; the 69thanniversary of the victorious end to the Great Patriotic War and the 21st anniversary of the liberation of Shushi. Along with the mayor; council members, teachers, students, Community Center volunteers and residents laid flowers at the heroes’ monument to honor the soldiers of these two wars.

Tsoghamarg village also had its valuable contribution in the Great Patriotic War. 134 community members went to the front and only 91 of them came back. The participants of the event visited Varazdat Movsisyan, the only veteran of the Great Patriotic War from Tsoghamarg village, and presented him with flowers and presents from the village mayor.

Varazdat Movsisyan was born in 1921 in the village of Tsoghamarg, Shirak marz. In 1939-1940 studied in the physics – mathematics department of Yerevan State Pedagogical Institute. On February 12, 1942 he joined the Soviet Army and in September 28, 1945, came back to his home village In 1955 -56 he worked in Tsoghamarg secondary school as deputy director, and from March 1956 he undertook the responsibilities of the school director, and headed the school for more than 28 years. V. Movsisyan was awarded a number of rewards, medals and diplomas for his bravery during the Great Patriotic war, as well as for his big contribution to the cultural and educational life of his native village. In 1963 he was awarded a diploma of Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic Ministry of Education. In 1965 he received a diploma of Armenian SSR Supreme Council, and in 1967 he was conferred the title of Armenian SSR Honored Teacher.

The participants of the event mentioned that the duty and responsibility of all generations is to honor and remember those veterans who won the victory in the Great Patriotic War and Artsakh war, as it is due to them that we live in peace today.
